These authors describe a modified closed reduction and internal fixation technique for the treatment of dislocated calcaneal fractures, and report good results compared with the standard open reduction internal fixation technique.

The possible complications associated with open reduction internal fixation (ORIF) of dislocated intra-articular calcaneal fractures include soft tissue necrosis and osteitis of the calcaneum, sometimes leading to calcanectomy or amputation of the lower limb.
