Bilateral Os Trigonum in a Professional Ballet Dancer Treated Arthroscopically

A case report is presented concerning a professional classical ballet dancer with bilateral os trigonum with posterior ankle impingement. Arthroscopic excision of the os trigonum for treatment of the posterior ankle impingement resulted in a successful clinical outcome, and the dancer was able to resume her professional dance career.   Elastic stable intramedullary nailing (ESIN) has become a standard method of stabilizing pediatric long-bone fractures. Fracture stability is provided by a three-point buttress of two pre-bent, elastic, titanium nails that span the medullary canal, thus exerting opposing elastic forces. Small movements remain possible at the fracture site, supporting callus formation and bone union.

  The past 10 years have seen the rapid development of computer-assisted surgery (CAS) for total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Many surgeons now perform TKA using navigation systems because they are user-friendly and generate reproducible results. To date, there are several level 1 studies and meta-analyses demonstrating that navigation in TKA allows more precise implantation of the prosthesis, which aids both postoperative leg alignment and component orientation. However, CAS is time consuming and still requires an experienced surgeon.
