The British Orthopaedic Association (BOA) Annual Congress returned to Manchester, UK, during September 15–18, 2009. Held at Manchester Central, formerly known as the Manchester International Convention Centre–GMEX, this 4-day event included a range of social and educational events. Specifically themed for Continuing Professional Development, the congress officially started with sessions on medico-legal issues, Article 14 access, and courses on “training the trainers”. The scientific program included instructional lectures delivered by a number of distinguished speakers from across the country, as well as free papers and posters. One of the highlights of this year’s congress was the “Best of the Best” sessions, which covered the best free papers to be presented. The congress was well supported by specialist societies, including special participation from the Indian Orthopaedic Society. In this report, we aim to highlight a few of the topical sessions covered during the meeting.
