Molecular Classification of Breast Cancer

Dimitry SA Nuyten, MD

Molecular classification of breast cancer at diagnosis can serve multiple purposes. Clinically, prognostic information (i.e. likelihood of recurrence) and predictive information (i.e. sensitivity to treatment regimens) are of great importance to optimize treatment decision-making for individual patients. Furthermore, better understanding of the mechanisms of disease can help to identify new therapeutic targets.
