Editor’s note: Surveillance mammography is usually recommended after treatment for primary breast cancer, with the aim of detecting cancer recurrence within the ipsilateral conserved breast and metachronous contralateral primary breast cancer at the earliest opportunity in order to optimize outcome. The purpose of this study was to ascertain the outcomes of surveillance mammography following treatment of early stage primary breast cancer in a population-based case-series. The primary outcome measures were cancer recurrence and death caused by breast cancer.
