Editor’s note: Radiotherapy after breast-conserving surgery (BCS) is a standard practice, the value of which has been confirmed in large meta-analyses of clinical trials, showing a reduction of two-thirds in the rate of local recurrence and a 3% overall survival (OS) benefit in patients receiving radiotherapy compared with those not (
CML – Breast Cancer 2005;17:33–6). Yet whether radiotherapy is really needed in particular subgroups of patients is a recurring question.
