Editor’s note: Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is increasingly being used for the treatment of colorectal cancer (CRC) liver metastases (CRLM). The American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) convened a panel to conduct a comprehensive systematic review of the literature on RFA published between January 1996 and April 2007 in the MEDLINE database and the Cochrane Library. The existing data on RFA are primarily from single-arm retrospective and prospective trials; no randomized controlled trial on this topic has been published to date. As a result, the data were considered insufficient to formulate evidence-based practice guidelines, and therefore ASCO published the current clinical evidence review instead.
