Structured self-monitoring of blood glucose significantly reduces A1C levels in poorly controlled, noninsulin-treated type 2 diabetes: results from the Structured Testing Program study.

Polonsky WH, Fisher L, Schikman CH et al.
Editor’s note: This article perhaps represents the first true study of structured glucose monitoring in poorly controlled, noninsulintreated type 2 diabetes patients. While the literature is packed with studies and meta-analyses, the key difference in this investigation is that thought was given to a true strategy of testing, such that individual patients were very clearly instructed on a monitoring pattern that should be undertaken in the active arm of the study.
