Exposure to candesartan during the first trimester of pregnancy in type 1 diabetes: experience from the placebo-controlled Diabetic Retinopathy Candesartan Trials.
Porta M, Hainer JW, Jansson SO et al.
Editor’s note: The teratogenic effects of second and third trimester exposure to angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEi) and angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs) are well-described in literature. The classic fetal abnormalities include failure of appropriate kidney development resulting in oligohydramnios and possible craniofacial abnormalities and limb contractures.
