Birkenfeld AL, Budziarek P, Boschmann M et al.

University Hospital Charité and HELIOS Klinikum, Berlin, Germany.

 Diabetes 2008;57:3199–204.

Editor’s note: The atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) has a well-established role in the pathophysiology of fluid volume overload and cardiac failure (Clin Pharmacokinet 1993;24:28–45). The present authors describe a new metabolic role of ANP that could be relevant to therapy development for both obesity and cardiac failure.
