Tribouilloy C, Rusinaru D, Mahjoub H et al.

 Heart 2008;94:1450–5.

Editor’s note: Cases of diabetes is increasingly becoming more common in patients with heart failure (HF; Am J Med 2006;119:591–9). Many patients with a clinical diagnosis HF have a normal left ventricular ejection fraction (50%); this is termed as HF with preserved ejection fraction (HFPEF). Compared with HF with a reduced ejection fraction, the prognostic implications of diabetes in HFPEF patients is less well understood, particularly the role of drugs, despite the fact that HFPEF is increasing in prevalence amongst patients with HF. In this small observational study from France, the authors investigated the prognostic impact of diabetes in HFPEF.
