Editor’s note: This report of the ongoing population-based Casale Monferrato Study focuses specifically on the results of baseline high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (CRP) estimations in predicting 5-year cardiovascular disease (CVD) and all-cause mortality in type 2 diabetes. The main study consists of 3249 type 2 diabetes subjects from the town of Casale Monferrato, Italy. The present study involved 2381 of these subjects, for whom CRP measurements were available.
