Serum cholesterol and statin use predict virological response to peginterferon and ribavirin therapy

Harrison SA, Rosaro L, Hu K et al.
Editor’s note: An interesting observation regarding the likelihood of response to both pegylated interferon and ribavirin in the treatment of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) is that elevated low-density lipoprotein (LDL) concentrations (J Interferon Cytokine Res 1995;15:705–12) and statin use (Hepatology 2006;44:117–25) are associated with higher sustained virological response (SVR) rates. The present study evaluated high-density lipoprotein (HDL) concentrations and virological response.
