Primary prophylaxis of gastric variceal bleeding comparing cyanoacrylate injection and beta-blockers: a randomized controlled trial.

Mishra SR, Sharma BC, Kumar A et al.
There are limited randomized studies of therapy for gastric varices (GVs), and none for primary prophylaxis of bleeding from GVs. In this randomized controlled trial from India, cyanoacrylate injection was compared with β-blockers or no treatment for the primary prophylaxis of bleeding from GVs. Cyanoacrylate was chosen as it is recognized that both sclerotherapy and banding ligation are not particularly effective for the treatment of GVs, whether for acute bleeding or secondary prophylaxis (J Hepatol 2010;53:762–8).
