Endoscopy

Beckly JB, Douie WJ, Hayward CM et al.

Derriford Hospital, Plymouth, UK.

 Dis Colon Rectum 2007;50:1047–52.

Editor’s note: In order to measure the sensitivity of colonoscopy, the authors of this study assessed the ability of six colonoscopists to detect, upon withdrawal of the colonoscope, markers that had been placed in the colon by the intubating colonoscopist. The extubating colonoscopists were blinded to the number, type, and location of the markers. The experience of the endoscopists being tested ranged from having performed <500 examinations to >2000. Cecal intubation rates for the previous 50 consecutive colonoscopies performed by each of these endoscopists were also obtained, and correlated with experience.
