Barrett’s Esophagus

Prasad GA, Wang KK, Halling KC et al.

Mayo Clinic College of Medicine, Rochester, MN, USA.

 Gastroenterology 2008;135:370–9.

Editor’s note: There is increasing interest in endoscopic ablative therapies for high-grade dysplasia (HGD) and carcinoma in situ in Barrett’s esophagus (BE), owing to the morbidity and mortality associated with surgery in this disease. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is rapidly becoming the endoscopic treatment of choice in intramucosal carcinomas. In this article, Prasad et al. reviewed their experience with PDT at The Mayo Clinic College of Medicine (Rochester, MN, USA) to determine whether they could identify biomarkers that are associated with responsiveness to PDT in BE-associated dysplasias and cancers.
