Editor’s note: In this study, patients with mild chronic hepatitis C with a METAVIR score of F0 or F1 at baseline were evaluated with respect to early prediction of fibrosis progression. Progressors were those who had progression of ≥2 stages of the METAVIR score within 5 years. The predictive tools included a cirrhosis risk score (CRS) based on several genetic variants, and evaluation of non-invasive fibrosis markers. The CRS is based on previous research conducted by Huang and colleagues, which did not have follow-up data (Hepatology 2007;46:297–306).
