 Prenat Diagn 2007;27:595–9.

Editor’s note: Vasa previa remains an extremely rare obstetric complication with a very high perinatal mortality rate. It is a condition in which the fetal blood vessels run through the membranes of the lower uterine segment between the cervix and the fetal presentation, unprotected by the umbilical cord or the placenta. The reported incidence is one in 2500 pregnancies (Obstet Gynecol Surv 1999;54:138–45).
