Editor’s note: Sunitinib is an oral multikinase inhibitor that targets several receptor tyrosine kinases. Its antiproliferative activity in renal cell carcinoma (RCC) and gastrointestinal stromal tumors is well documented. Clinical studies have reported that hypertension is one of the main side effects of this agent (
N Engl J Med 2007;356:115–24,

JAMA 2006;295:2516–24,
Lancet 2006;368:1329–88). Based on this finding, the authors of the present article performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of 13 prospective clinical trials in patients with RCC or other solid tumors who had received sunitinib as a single agent to evaluate the risk of hypertension. The risk of renal dysfunction was also investigated.
