Nightly sublingual tizanidine HCl in multiple sclerosis: clinical efficacy and safety.

Vakhapova V, Auriel E, Karni A.
Editor’s note: Spasticity is a very frequent symptom in multiple sclerosis (MS) patients and can severely affect mobility and care Its incidence increases with disease duration and several symptomatic treatments are available including oral tizanidine, oral baclofen, and intramuscular botulinum toxin A injections. Tizanidine ameliorates spasticity via its effect as a central α2 adrenergic agonist and, due to its short plasma half-life (approximately 2 h), is given multiple times per day. Among its adverse effects, somnolence can be especially limiting for MS patients, in whom fatigue is also frequent.
