Under treatment of overactive bladder symptoms in patients with multiple sclerosis: an ancillary analysis of the NARCOMS Patient Registry

Mahajan ST, Patel PB, Marrie RA.
Editor’s note: Overactive bladder symptoms – including urgency, urge incontinence, increased urinary frequency, and nocturia – are very frequent in multiple sclerosis (MS) patients, especially in the late stages of the disease. The current authors performed a questionnaire-based study of approximately 16 500 MS patients registered in the NARCOMS (North American Research Committee on Multiple Sclerosis) database to assess the frequency, severity, and treatment of overactive bladder symptoms in MS patients. There was a 58% response rate to the questionnaire, and among these responders, 65% reported moderate to severe overactive bladder symptoms, corresponding to approximately 6200 affected MS patients.
