Editor’s note: Patients are classed as having benign multiple sclerosis (MS) if they accumulate only minimal or no disability after many years of having the disease. Developing a better understanding of the mechanisms that permit the development of such a mild disease is clinically relevant, as earlier identification of this form of the disease could help prevent unnecessary treatment and patient anxiety.
