Editor’s note: Azathioprine is the most commonly used immunosuppressive drug to prevent relapse in patients with neuromyelitis optica (NMO) and NMO spectrum disorder. In this retrospective study, the authors reviewed the medical records of 99 patients with NMO and NMO spectrum disorder at the Mayo Clinic (Rochester, MN, USA). Clinical information was obtained by telephone in 28 cases. There was a higher number of female patients (n=79), and 86 of the 99 had NMO.
