The present article is a comprehensive review of the value of 123I-FP-CIT single-photon emission computed tomography (DAT-SPECT) for the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease (PD), atypical parkinsonian syndromes (such as multiple system atrophy, progressive supranuclear palsy, and corticobasal degeneration) and genetic parkinsonism, and dementia with Lewy bodies.
