Editor’s note: It is wonderful when something pleasant also turns out to be healthy. This study indicates that drinking tea could reduce the risk of cognitive impairment and decline. Between September 2003 and December 2005, cognitive function (assessed via the mini-mental state examination) and tea consumption were measured at baseline in 2808 participants aged
≥55 years from the southeast region of Singapore. Cross-sectional analysis was performed on information taken from 2501 individuals. In 1438 cognitively unimpaired participants, cognitive function was re-examined following 1–2 years (median 16 months). Logistic regression models that adjusted for potential confounders were used to calculate odds ratio (ORs) of association.
