Editor’s note: Sudden, unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP) has been defined as “the sudden, unexpected, non-traumatic, non-drowning death in an individual with epilepsy, witnessed or unwitnessed, in which post-mortem examination does not reveal an anatomical or toxicological cause for the death” (
Epilepsia 1997;38(Suppl 11):S6–8). The current article debates the pros and cons of informing all patients about the risks of SUDEP.
