Editor’s note: Clinical trials involving dopaminergic treatment for Parkinson’s disease (PD) consistently demonstrate that approximately 10% of the patients who are entered into these studies have normal presynaptic dopaminergic imaging, which indicates that these patients were misdiagnosed as having PD. These patients have been termed as having “scans without evidence of dopaminergic deficits” (SWEDDs). Follow-up imaging studies appear to confirm this view.
