Editor’s note: The non-ergot-derived oral dopamine agonist medications pramipexole and ropinirole are in widespread use for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease (PD), particularly because there has been a decline in the prescription of ergot-based preparations since these medications were found to be associated with cardiac valvulopathy.
