Editor’s note: Tourette’s syndrome is characterized by multiple motor and phonic tics and is associated with a variety of behavioral issues including attention deficit disorder with or without hyperactivity, obsessive–compulsive disorder, and impulse control disorders (N Engl J Med 2001;345:1184–92). The condition is typically treated with anti-dopaminergic therapies in addition to numerous, miscellaneous medications. However, these treatments may have significant adverse effects, including tardive dyskinesia, as well as providing inadequate symptomatic benefit in many cases.
