Editor’s note: Clinical trial data have indicated that between 5% and 15% of patients entered into several clinical trials with a diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease (PD) had normal presynaptic dopaminergic imaging. These patients were given the acronym SWEDDs (subjects with scans without evidence of dopaminergic deficits). Subsequent data has indicated that these patients probably did not have PD.
