Editor’s note: Compared with the risk of stroke associated with withdrawing anticoagulant therapy for secondary stroke prevention, the risk associated with withdrawing antiplatelet therapy, such as acetylsalicylic acid (ASA), has been considered to be low. In this study, the authors set out to test this assumption, and attempted to quantify the risk of stroke associated with (as well as identify the reasons for) the discontinuation of ASA therapy.
