Understanding Persistent Pain Through Neuroimaging

Pain is a frequent symptom exhibited by patients seeking neurological treatment. In the majority of cases this pain is neuropathic, i.e. it arises as a direct consequence of a lesion or disease affecting the somatosensory system [1]. However, there does not appear to be a simple connection between neurological damage and neuropathic pain. The underlying reasons for this are still not fully understood.
