Editor’s note: Retigabine is a novel antiepilepsy drug (AED) for the treatment of partial onset seizures that has recently been licensed in the UK. Within the UK, retigabine has undergone a National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) Technology Appraisal (http://guidance.nice.org.uk/TA232). NICE recommends retigabine as a possible add-on (adjunctive) treatment for partial-onset seizures with or without secondary generalization in some people with epilepsy who have previously failed to respond to treatment with carbamazepine, clobazam, gabapentin, lamotrigine, levetiracetam, oxcarbazepine, sodium valproate, or topiramate.
