Editor’s note: A possible association between blood pressure (BP) and intraocular pressure (IOP) has been debated. A clinically significant relationship has not been thought to exist unless BP becomes very low. In this study of 2981 people from Beijing, People’s Republic of China, a statistically significant correlation between BP and IOP was found, although the clinical significance of this relationship is still likely to be small. Corneal thickness was measured but the authors do not specify whether this was correlated in any way with BP. They suggest that theBP–IOP correlation may possibly be caused by changes in episcleral venous pressure.
