Editor’s note: This report from one center in the US suggests an increase in ocular methicillin-resistant
Staphylococcus aureus infections. However, it does not support the theory that these infections are more severe or more virulent than methicillin-sensitive
S aureus. The investigators suggest that vancomycin is the best choice for the treatment of the condition, rather than ciprofloxacin or erythromycin. As ever with such infections, it is best for the clinician to discuss treatment with their own institution’s microbiology department.
