Lens and Cataract Surgery

Editor’s note: This article has a rather misleading title. The authors used two questionnaire instruments, the Visual Function Index (VF-14) and the Euro Quality of Life Instrument (EQ-5D), to assess visual and general health quality of life before and after cataract surgery in 861 patients. Unfortunately, their main conclusion is that although the threshold at which cataract surgery is performed has been reduced, current questionnaire instruments are not adequate for assessing whether or not cataract surgery is being overused.
