Editor’s note: This is a 10-year retro-spective review of the characteristics and treatment of 155 cases of blepharoptosis seen at Birmingham Children’s Hospital (Birmingham, UK). Overall, 71% of ptosis was corrected with one operation. Just over one-quarter of the children had amblyopia, a small minority of cases becoming manifest following surgery, while 19% had significant refractive error and 14% demonstrated a concomitant squint. These findings emphasize the need for a comprehensive examination in these patients. The majority of failures (drop in lid level) occurred within 6 months of surgery.
