Editor’s note: The G-probe (Iris Medical Instruments, Mountain View, CA, USA) was designed as a single-use device. Nonetheless, it has been shown that its energy delivery remains fairly constant with multiple uses. The problem lies with sterilization. In this article, a disposable barrier is described. The structures of the probe and microbiological samples were examined after the G-probe had been used for 20 cycles in post mortem eyes. No debris or damage was detected on the G-probe, nor were there any perforations of the barrier, and the barrier acted to prevent microbial contamination of the G-probe.
