 Injury 2011;42:492–5.

Editor’s note: Guns firing ball-bearings (BBs) have become increasingly popular and may unfortunately be associated with significant ocular injuries. This article reports on such injuries in 13 patients with direct BB gun damage to the globe. The results of the injuries were very poor, with the best visual acuity being counting fingers at 2 m, despite several surgical procedures, the goal of which the authors rather grimly describe as preventing enucleation without much chance of improving vision. It is clear that these “toys” have a significant chance of causing harm.
