Editor’s note: The rates of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in police officers range from 7% to 19% (J Occup Environ Med 2008;50:689–95). As police officers are exposed to numerous potentially traumatic situations, this suggests that many officers are resilient to the effects of stress and trauma. The objective of the current investigation was, therefore, to identify protective factors that might mitigate the risk of PTSD symptoms amongst officers.
