Editor’s note: Previous reviews examining whether homeopathy is more effective than placebo in general medicine have had mixed results (Lancet 2005;366:726–32). As no previous review has focused on homeopathy for psychiatric conditions, the objective of the current article was to systematically review randomized, placebo-controlled trials of homeopathy for the treatment of various psychiatric conditions. The search strategy was restricted to English-language reports of randomized controlled trials in humans. Seven groups of psychiatric conditions were examined: depression, anxiety, sleep and circadian rhythm problems, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), premenstrual symptoms, mild traumatic brain injury (TBI), and functional somatic syndromes (fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome).
