New Outcome Measures

Henkens IR, Van Wolferen SA, Gan CT et al.

Editor’s note: During the course of the disease in pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), right ventricular (RV) stroke volume falls due to an increased RV afterload. To compensate for this, and as a result of greater sympathetic nerve activity, heart rate (HR) increases, especially if PAH continues to worsen. In the present study, Henkens and colleagues investigated whether the HR, as measured by electrocardiography (ECG), might be a useful prognostic marker.
