Editor’s note: The majority of patients with pulmonary embolism can be satisfactorily treated with heparin and warfarin. A minority of patients with large pulmonary emboli have right ventricular dysfunction (RVD), and in these individuals thrombolitic therapy with streptokinase or tissue plasminogen activator is often used.
