Erosive hand osteoarthritis: its prevalence and clinical impact in the general population and symptomatic hand osteoarthritis.

Kwok WY, Kloppenburg M, Rosendaal FR et al.
Erosive osteoarthritis (EOA) is a subset of hand OA, defined radiologically in terms of the presence of erosions and subchondral bone collapse in the interphalangeal joints of the fingers. The subjects in this study were derived from the Rotterdam study, which is a large, Dutch, population-based study on the determinants of chronic disabling diseases. The purpose of the study was to estimate the prevalence of EOA in this population cohort and to determine whether subjects with EOA have increased hand pain and disability compared with persons who have non-erosive hand OA.
