Editor’s note: Not all patients with psoriatic arthritis (PsA) respond to disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs) or anti-tumor necrosis factor-α (anti-TNF-α) agents. Interleukin-12 (IL-12) and IL-23 are thought to play a role in causing bone and joint damage in PsA. Ustekinumab is a human monoclonal antibody that binds a subunit shared by IL-12 and IL-23 and prevents these cytokines from binding to their receptors. This Phase II study explored the hypothesis that this agent might therefore be effective in the treatment of PsA.
