Editor’s note: There have been previous attempts at defining the type of outcome measures that should be used in clinical studies in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), but no formal recommendations have been published. Concerns have been raised about the poor quality of previous SLE trial design and reporting. Under the auspices of the European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR), a Task Force used a consensus approach to develop evidence-based recommendations for points to consider when conducting clinical trials in patients with SLE.
