Editor’s note: In patients with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), it is important to identify which joints are inflamed. The number of inflamed joints determines, for example, whether the patient has polyarthritis or oligoarthritis and whether he or she can be included in clinical trials. However, clinical examination may underestimate the number of inflamed joints. In this study, the authors examined whether ultrasound examination of joints can identify synovitis that is missed on clinical examination.
