The cornerstone of treatment for patients with vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) is to protect the upper urinary tract from renal scar formation and the subsequent development of hypertension. The gold standard for surgical correction of reflux is open surgical intervention either by an intravesical or an extravesical approach.
