Management of recurrent urethral strictures after hypospadias repair: is there a role for repeat dilation or endoscopic incision?
Gargollo PC, Cai AW, Borer JG et al.
Editor’s note: Hypospadias is a congenital condition that afflicts approximately five in 1000 live births. Surgical success has improved over the last decade, but 3–5% of patients will still need a secondary intervention for complications arising from the original surgery. One of these complications is urethral stricture. The surgical options for these cases include dilation and re-operative hypospadias repair. To date, the literature is sparse in terms of comparing these two surgical techniques. The current authors present a decent series over a 10-year interval, evaluating and comparing the two initial approaches and secondary treatments for failed cases.
