Salvage ureteral reimplantation after failure of dextranomer/hyaluronic acid injection.

Sparks S, Decambre M, Christman M et al.
Endoscopic treatment of vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) has become mainstream with the advent of the dextranomer–hyaluronic acid (DxHA) copolymer. This technique promotes lower morbidity rates and offers an outpatient setting that is advantageous when compared with the traditional open surgery technique. However, even in experienced hands, the success rate falls below that seen with the open technique. When patients experience treatment failure with the endoscopic technique, a salvage open procedure is performed. This group from San Diego, CA, USA, looked at patients who had undergone this salvage procedure and compared outcome variables to de novo open reimplantation.
